Privacy in aps has gone up a notch since SnapChat came about with auto-destruct timers on everything you sent out.

Well now thats been taken one step further with Confide, a simple free messaging app app with one purpose; SECRETS

You send a message to a contact which is then shown to them with little boxes covering each word, as you scroll along the message to reveal whats been typed other boxes instantly swing straight over the words again, so once they’re read they’re instantly gone again forever. This nifty little system also prevents anybody taking screenshots and showing people what an offensive little shit you’re being.

As well as finding contacts from your existing address book you can also send messages directly to somebodies email address, allowing them to read it without even having the app.

Confide is free from the AppStore and accepts no responsibility for any trouble you may cause while using it.

Recently update for iOS 7, Slow Shutter Cam by Cogitap Software is what I’ve been waiting for in terms of photography apps.

Theres definitely a lot of them out there but they all seem to do the same simple things; Filters, Crops, Frames etc

With Slow Shutter Cam offers 3 unique capture modes:

MOTION BLUR: Just like the shutter priority on a DSLR the motion blur can be used to make ghostly images and those cool waterfall effects you see on arty photo places like 500px and DeviantArt

LOW LIGHT: Using the maximum amount of light the camera sensor can pick up, perfect for really dark photography (you can actually take pictures of the night sky!)

LIGHT TRAIL: This is more of an editing feature but with a bit of ‘light painting’ you can knock up some really nice photographs of fireworks or those ones you see of light trails off the back of a speeding car.

The app also the various photo editing tools you get with most photography apps (adjustable focus/exposure, Self Timer etc)

For some awesome real examples search the #slowshuttercam hashtag on Instagram

Gaming is always more fun when you’re absolutely annihilating a real person right? Well heres some of the best ways to do that.

Letterpress

This minimalist word game is probably my most played game of all time and easily one of the best free apps you can download.

Connecting you to other players via GameCentre allows you to play unlimited untimed games and make unlimited number of enemies.

Letterpress-for-iOS-iPhone-screenshot-001

The aim of the game is simple: Whoever owns the most letters on the 5×5 grid wins. To claim a letter as your own you just need to use it in a word, the letters don’t even need to be next to each other! Steal your opponents letters to reduce their score and totally surround your letters with your own colour to defend them from being stolen. Words can only be played once so make sure to get the longest possible first. The game ends when the grid is full.

Letterpress is free from the AppStore

Ruzzle

You remember Boggle right? Well this is that but without stupid dice things and egg timers. Both players are presented with the same grid of letters and a 2 minute timer and must connect letters in any direction to make as many words as possible before the time is up. Each game is made up three rounds and can be frantic and VERY competitive.

Being able to play against your friends from Facebook & Twitter (absolutely loads of people are on it) as well as random opponents is also a great way to find out which of your mates are completely stupid.

Ruzzle is free on the AppStore

OLO

OLO has been out for a while but is a new one to me. A bit like air hockey where you’re flicking puck like things across the board. Each player starts with 5 or 6 OLOs that you have to flick across the screen into your coloured goal, whilst also trying to knock your opponents OLOs out of their goal or reclaim them as your own and it can get very tactical. Whoever has the most points when both players run out of pucks wins. The app itself is very well made with a nice soundtrack and has online leaderboards to keep you trying.

With GameCentre support for online matches as well as local gaming for up to 4 players on the same device this game be really fun.

OLO is priced at £1.49 and is totally worth it

This probably should’ve been called ‘Spotify By Dre’ but whatever.
Basically like Spotify/RDIO etc, Beats Music promises to suggest music to you that ‘feels like’ what you already listen to, instead of sounds like. I don’t know what this means but personally I prefer to choose my own music to play because that’s the only real way to listen to what you actually want to listen to amirite?
Anyway on launch you will be presented with various genres, artists and albums yada yada and you choose wether you like, love or hate them then you’ll be offered playlists based on that. The more you use it the more it learns about you too and they’re supposedly going to add a feature that will suggest playlists based on your location like a sleep playlist when you get in bed or a heavy metal playlist when you’re grocery shopping.

Beats Music will be available on all the major devices this month at a monthly cost of around £8 and will come in the obvious colour of black and red.

Added to the AppStore a few days ago ‘Jelly‘ is the latest ‘whats that all about’ app you might be seeing around Twitter.

After gaining quite a few users since its release earlier this week this service is looking to be actually quite good. Once you have your Twitter & Facebook accounts linked to the app (its the only thing you need to do) photo questions posted by people you have on those networks (and friends of friends) will pop-up on the home screen as little photo cards with little queries & questions. ‘Which shoes should I wear?’, ‘where should I go for lunch?’ ‘Is this illegal?’ and so on. It could be quite a handy little app in terms of decision making however I’m waiting for the funny ways people will begin to use it, similar to what happened to Vine.

Don’t forget to thank people!

Jelly is available now for the incredible price of free

Polaroids new Socialmatic camera is Instagram with a printer

Obviously Instagram got the idea from Polaroid and now Polaroid are doing the same thing in return like some sort of inspiration inception.

This new Socialmatic camera comes with the Android operating system, has a 14 megaschnitzel sensor and allows you to edit your photos before you upload them directly to your social networks and/or print them off out the little shitty paper thing on the side. Well worth the £200 price tag thats going to come with it..

Heres a guy talking about it at the recent CES 2014 convention

One of the events I most look forward to each year is back in Manchester this month at The Roadhouse.

Raising money for The J-Dilla Foundation & Lupus UK various DJs will be celebrating the life and work of J-Dilla, playing everything from his immense catalogue of tracks, samples and influences this night has one of the best vibes of anything I’ve ever been to.

Special guests on the night will be Ma Jukes and Illa J (Dillas mother and brother)

Tickets available here now with all proceeds going to charity.

Anybody that enjoys a puzzle game will be familiar with this straight away, or at least you’ll think that at first. Instead of being your regular ‘match three’ game Groops has switched things around a bit.

Each level presents you with a grid of various shapes, some made of a solid colour, some patterned, some with symbols etc

The aim of each level is to find the speicifed number of ‘Groops’. Now a group can be different things, 3 shapes the same but different colours, 3 different shapes the same colour, 3 patterned shapes etc, but as well as matching shapes to make a Groop shapes that are totally different in every way count as a Groop also!

So basically on each stage you need to either find 3 shapes that match or 3 shapes that have absolutely NO similarities whatsoever. Now wether or not you think this sounds confusing IT ABSOLUTELY IS CONFUSING.

screen1136x1136

screen1136x1136-1

screen1136x1136-2

The game itself is presented solidly and plays very well, which is absolutely necessary if you’re gonna be spending hours looking at the same level and if you’ve got the brains to complete all the levels (You haven’t) there is also a time attack mode complete with GameCentre leader boards.

Groops is available from the Appstore now at a bargain price of 69p
